A letter from Satbir SinghFounder, SatYogi Academy

Parents, please stop and ask yourself one question.

Are we preparing our children for life, or only for the next exam?

School.Tuition.Homework.Test preparation. Dance class.Extra classes.Another worksheet.Another exam.

The child’s entire day gets filled. And then we proudly say, “My child is very busy.”

But busy doing what?

From morning until night, how much of that time is spent actually developing the child, and how much is spent repeatedly consuming information because the system demands another test?

A child can spend hours memorising something today, reproduce it in an examination tomorrow, and forget much of it later. That is not necessarily intelligence. That is training for an examination. There is a difference.

Education should not only teach a child what to remember. It should teach the child how to learn, how to concentrate, how to think, how to observe, how to solve problems, how to control attention and how to remain calm under pressure.

And this is where I believe many parents are missing the bigger picture. We keep adding classes. But rarely do we ask:

“Have we trained the instrument that is doing all the learning — the mind?”

If a child has ten hours of academic work but has never learned how to manage attention, what exactly are we developing? More information? Or a better learner?

There are smarter ways of learning. I have seen students in our training achieve results that surprised even their parents. I am not asking you to believe me blindly.

Observe the child. Measure the change. Look at concentration, recall, confidence, discipline and academic performance over time.

That is the standard.

Meditation is not the end. It is the foundation.

Meditation is often presented as “sit quietly for ten minutes and relax.” That can be useful. But why should we stop there?

The deeper purpose is to train attention and awareness. Once attention becomes stable, we can begin exploring what the mind can do through structured training: memory, visualisation, observation, mental imagery, concentration and other cognitive skills. At SatYogi Academy, we call this Mind Screen training.

We don’t want children merely to become good at following instructions. We want them to become better learners and more conscious human beings.

And when we talk about going beyond ordinary limitations, we do not ask children to simply believe in “superpowers.” We ask them to practise.

Experience comes first. Claims come second.

Why I need you, the parent

We often hear: “My child has school. My child has exams. My child has tuition. My child has dance. My child doesn’t have time.”

I understand. But sometimes the problem isn’t that the child has no time. It is what we have chosen to fill that time with.

A child doesn’t need another hour of random entertainment. A child doesn’t need every minute scheduled. A child needs the opportunity to develop the mind that will carry them through the next seventy or eighty years of life.

Before adding another class, ask

Will this make my child more capable, or simply more occupied?

Before giving another hour to a screen, ask

What is this doing to my child’s attention?

Before saying “meditation can wait until they are older,” ask

Why wait until unhealthy patterns are deeply set before teaching awareness and discipline?

Parents, this is your call.

Don’t wait for your child to struggle and then search for a solution. Don’t wait until the teenage years to teach discipline. Don’t wait until examination pressure becomes overwhelming to teach calmness and concentration.

Start building the foundation now. Give your child:

And most importantly: practise with them.

Children don’t learn discipline because we lecture them about discipline. They learn it because they see it being lived.

Someone will train your child’s attention. The question is:

Who?

You don’t get to choose whether your child is influenced. You can choose what influences them most.

Plant the seed now.

Education should not merely produce children who can reproduce information. It should develop human beings who know how to use their minds.
